Breast Uplift
(Mastopexy
)

Age and childbearing has a significant impact on breast shape. While remaining full in terms of breast tissue, some breasts can droop or sag to give an unappealing shape. Padded support bras can supply a temporary lift while worn, but once removed a woman can lose self-confidence about her appearance, and is often limited in terms of some fashion clothing, particularly items with thin straps, or that require the wearer to be bra-less.

Breasts can be uplifted in ranging degrees, from a minimal to a full lift, subject to a surgeon’s assessment. Incision lines therefore vary depending on the specific surgery method used, but as with the breast reduction operation, breast uplift surgery can involve similar incision lines and the same factors to consider in terms of sensitivity and breastfeeding. The results, however, tend to outweigh the downsides for most women with overly sagging breasts.

Breast uplift surgery does not usually decrease the size of a woman’s breast, but it does give the satisfying result of the breast retaining a firm, outwards facing shape, even when bra-less.

Sagging breasts that are deflated can also be uplifted, but help is required to fill out and form the breast shape where the natural breast tissue has disappeared. In these instances a breast uplift operation can be performed alongside breast implant surgery to give a pert and rounded breast shape.

In these cases a patient can obtain a bigger breast as well as maintaining a naturally raised breast shape that was only previously achieved by wearing an uplifting, padded bra.

Breast uplift surgery, with or without implants, can be vitally beneficial to a woman’s self-assurance. Sagging breasts often drag a woman’s confidence down with them, so the results following surgery have the opposite effect on the consciousness. As with breast reduction surgery, a breast uplift operation can make a new fashion wardrobe available to patients, as well as a whole new range of pretty and lacy lingerie that isn’t held together by masses of wires and padding.

Post Operative Healing
Breast Uplift surgery involves a 1-2 night hospital stay, subject to a surgeon’s assessment of the patient. Sutures (stitches) are usually removed in two stages after approximately 7 and 14 days, if they are not dissolvable. During this time there will be some swelling, which is suppressed by the patient wearing a support or sports bra continually for a period of approximately 4 weeks. For the first few days there may also be some slight bruising. The patient is advised not to drive for 5-7 days following surgery, and to avoid heavy lifting and any strenuous exercise involving use of the arms for a minimum of four weeks.
