You can judge for yourself what the likely improvements will be by facing a mirror and pulling the skin of the face and neck taut by pushing towards the back of your head with your fingers. As with all cosmetic surgery, there must be scars, but these are hidden within the hairline behind the ear. There will also be a scar in front of the ear, but this is very faint, and as it follows the contour of the ear is quite unnoticeable after the initial period. Within weeks it is difficult to detect the scar line in front of the ear

During the operation the skin on the face is separated from the underlying tissues, which can disturb some of the tiny nerve endings. This disturbance can cause a degree of
numbness, but as the healing takes place normal sensation will begin to
return to the face. Again, because a large amount of tissue is separated
during a face lift operation, the patient can expect a degree of swelling
and bruising around the area of the incision and often the cheeks
                                     and upper neck.

Many people think that a face lift will remove every line, wrinkly
and sag from the face, when in fact a basic face lift only deals
with the lower third of the face and upper neck.

The results of a good face lift is to make the patient look fitter,
healthier and more attractive, but not different. This is achieved
by removing all the telltale signs of aging but leaving the
natural feature lines that we all have, no matter what age.

                                                Post Operative Healing
A face lift will normally be carried out under general
anaesthetic and therefore the patient will not experience
discomfort from the procedure. It will involve a 1 – 2 night
stay in hospital, subject to a surgeon’s decision and
recommendation. Sutures are usually removed after 7 and
14 days if they are not dissolvable. Patients should allows
a few weeks for the swelling to settle down, and
approximately 3 months for the full result to become
clear, although this is very dependant on the
                                                                    person.
